Spyware is “a type of malware that can be installed on computers and collects little bits of information at a time about users without their knowledge” – Wikipedia. In other words, it is the bad software that junks of your computer; slowing it down, getting in your way, and in some cases compromising your security. Your Guardian Tech won’t only clean the spyware off your computer, but show you how you can prevent it from getting there on the first place.
Here are five simple rules to help you avoid spyware:

Be Suspicious of All Pop-ups, and Don’t Click on Any Unless You Really Really Mean To
Most respectable websites these days will not implement pop-ups, so always be suspicious if you begin to see them. It may mean you are on an unsecure website, or you may already be infected with spyware. If you constantly see pop-ups as you browse contact your Guardian Tech to have the issue resolved.

Use an Updated and Secure Web Browser
There are plenty of great and secure web browsers out there, but if you don’t update them you can easily get into trouble. For Microsoft Windows we recommend using the latest versions Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.

Be Suspicious of Email Attachments & Links
Before clicking on any links or downloading any attachments in emails make sure you know who the email is from and the link or attachment makes sense and is expected. Even if the email is from a friend or co-worker their computer or email account may have been compromised and sending out spyware or worse.

Use Anti-Malware Software and Run it Often
In the Voonder Toolbox we recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. This excellent and free software deeply scans your computer to find and eliminate unwanted programs and trackers. Always make sure the software is updated to the latest version, and make sure to run it at least once a month, or whenever you notice something funny.
